MILUTIN GUBASH | WELCOME TO PALOOKAVILLE
SATURDAY 10 MARCH 2007 – SATURDAY 21 APRIL 2007
Montral artist, Milutin Gubash’s collaborative and highly theatrical photo and video projects imagine how various forms of common (often banal and disappointing) social relations might be regenerated and transformed through the individual creative acts of protagonists and interlocutors. These improvised dramatic experiments frequently treat heavy themes alienation, failure, death and tragedy with humor, irreverence, and a quirky optimism. Welcome to Palookaville includes seven large photographic portraits characters and a series of seventeen videos presented in an intimate cinema.
MILUTIN GUBASH has exhibited extensively in North America since he received his MFA from Concordia University in 2000. Recent solo exhibitions include Gallery 44 (Toronto), Galerie VU (Quebec City, for Manif D’Art 3), Musee D’Art Contemporain de Montral, Mendel Art Gallery (Saskatoon), and group exhibitions at the Art Gallery of Alberta (Edmonton), Strand-On-Volta (Washington D.C.) and Dare-Dare (Montral). Gubash lives in Chambly, Quebec.
