For her installation in the YYZWINDOW, Chandra Bulucon presents twelve copies This is Modern Art by English art critic Matthew Collings which have been completely dismantled and reconstructed to reflect Chandra’s own life and history. No two copies of the book are alike. Over the course of the exhibition, ten people are asked to sign up at YYZ to each take one of the reconstructed books and place them onto the shelves of various bookstores around Toronto and the GTA, unbeknownst to the shopkeepers. This piece is planned to travel across Canada and beyond.

Through this project, Bulucon attempts to create elaborate personal fictions of success and aspiration, while demystifying the hype that surrounds popular culture.

SANDRA BULUCON, sole proprietor of audio production company Puppy machine Productions and an interdisciplinary artist and musician, integrates her diverse practices with her strong background in community work. Bulucon hoted and produced the five-year running CKLN radio show, Quick Stop Art Spot, along with the recently resurrected vaudeville event, The Gong Show. She has been showing and performing her works for over ten years in places such as the AGO, Art Metropole, Strange Sisters, and the Saidye Bronfman Centre for the Arts. Bulucon has worked with collectives and musicians such as Tops’nBottoms, Just Like the Movies, Instant Coffee, and The Hidden Cameras, and has given artist lectures at Transmissions sans Frontiers and Mercer Union. She is a member of Lift and is on the board of directors of FADO. Oh yeah, and she’s a licensed financial advisor.
