GUSTAVO ARTIGAS |A HUNGRY MAN IS AN ANGRY MAN

 

An installation of drawings and photocopies. As part of a social landscape research, it responds to gaps and cracks in the economics of the world. As a kind of Arte Povera gesture, this show appeals to concepts of intimacy in public space, survival attitudes and rage.

Gustavo Artigas lives and works in Toronto and Mexico City. Over the last 25 years, Artigas has experimented with different media and visual art modalities such as Sound Art, Site Specific Installations, Performance Art, Relational works, educational platforms, light pieces and painting. His work dialogues with a with a wide variety of issues, from the political to the social identities.

Artigas’ vision took his work to the Venice Biennale, the Liverpool Biennial the Havana Biennial and other important international art forums. Some of the Canadian Art Institutions he had collaborate with are Mercer UnionA Space, Le Mois de la Photo a MontrealDazibaoSur GalleryUnited ContemporaryGalerie B-312,and the Banff Centre for the Arts. He has received local and international awards. He received his a BFA from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México in 1995.
